l grew some beauties last year but before l could harvest them the birds made off with them. All that was left for me were big footprints and lots of poop.

Buy a dog to scare them away!
Grow bigger pumpkins.
Chain pumpkins to the ground.
Sit outside with a shotgun filled with buckshot.
Stop growing pumpkins.
Grow pumpkins indoors.
shoot em'
what i have done in the past for pumpkins is when they first start to flower, i already had a small fence around them, but left the top open for me to be able get in easily and weed. then i made a chicken wire top to cover the fence and it protects from birds rabbits and any other veggie thieves. this also works for strawberries and i have started doing this over new flowers that i plant so birds dint get them before they are mature enough to stand on there own.
Dang that is a big bird to just run off with a pumkin like that!
i have heard somewhere that white string and/or white ''flags'' deter birds away.. not sure about that though sounds cheesy
Bring the pumpkins inside. Or a better idea, make a scarecrow. Otherwise, I suggest you get a dog. To scare off the birds.
scarecrow and it depends which bird
just paitently wait for the birds to come, then shoot them.that usually does the trick
a scarecrow should do it
Forget your bloody (I am allowed to say that in the states - ai not I?) pumpkins. Organize a safari, I will pay good money to shoot a bird big enough to haul off a pumpkin. RScott
well protect it from it by putting something over it so that the birds can not c it
I know where you can get some
TROLLS for you garden and they will put a stop to that in a heartbeat.

Oh I know the story, happened to me too..damn birds.
I have a friend from Russia he gave me a Katyusha for my last birthday and I had it installed near my Blake is pride pear tree under which i had many delightful pumpkins growing, they were always ambushed by black birds but not any more ..no Sir.. not any more.... since I got this little gadget.

Suspect raptors of the pterodactyl variety.
The only cure for this, I am afraid, is for u to charter a rather large boat & sail to Isla Nublar. There they will rent a tyrannosaurus. Sail back with T-Rex in tow.
Chain his leg to a stake in ur garden so he can not run off & eat the neighbors, & then watch the feathers fly. Well, not feathers, actually, but giant bits of reptile wings.
There will be some tyrannosaurus poop issues but nothing Moley can not handle.
Please be more specific, African or European birds?
